Consultant in Emergency Medicine
Responds around the South & East Cheshire area
Alongside his professional responsibilities, Tim is a Major Emergency Response Incident Team (MERIT) Doctor for the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and is an active responder for ourselves and BASICS North West.
As part of Volunteers week, we asked Dr Smith some more in depth questions about his activities within the organisation…
So what is your CSI BASICS role?
Responding doctor around South & East Cheshire or further afield if required. I’m also the education lead for BASICS North West and organise the monthly CPD sessions in Preston
How long have you been responding as a volunteer for?
I’ve been responding for the past two years but associated with CSI BASICS for about 4 years in total.
What motivates you to volunteer?
I live in Congleton but I’m not originally from the area so responding allows me to feel part of and contribute to my local community. As an Emergency Department Consultant, I benefit hugely from a close working relationship with my ambulance service colleagues. Responding has improved this greatly and gives me an invaluable insight into the pre-hospital environment whilst allowing me to deliver enhanced skills on scene and contribute towards education and training.
Interests outside of BASICS?
I’m married with 2 young daughters and like to spend as much time with my family as I can. If I get any spare time, I enjoy rugby (limited to watching it now!), cycling, cooking and travelling.
